What is FarmDirect_Cambodia
We understood that food is a big part of any living being in this universe, and of course healthy food. Historically, farming is a key survivors strategy of many Cambodian lives since our ancestors. Our natural resources in our country is so rich that we do not need to do much for just living a simple life. Our land and weather is very favorable for natural resources and farming reliant lifestyles. There is a famous phrase that we Cambodian people used to hear since our childhood is, "There are fish wherever water exist! when there is land, you no need to worry about your food" or in Khmer language "មានទឺកមានត្រី មានដីមិនបាច់ភ័យរឿងអត់អីស៊ី!"
Unfortunately, this is not a case for our current farmers' situation anymore. The increasing number of farmers who could not be self-sufficient from their farming activities due to the degradation of soil quality, lack of agricultural technology knowledge compare to neighboring countries, fluctuation and high manipulation of agricultural market price where farmers often losse more than gain had pushed many farmers to migrate and find other substitute income sources instead of farming. This had fragile the agricultural sector in Cambodia in many ways. It is like a chicken and egg issue while farmers left their farm work because of low return of investment of the sector, our people and government had to tolerate the need of imported unhealthy products to feed their hunger population. In the long run, this cost us so much money individually and a whole nation. Not only that, we spent traumandous money on our healthcare where not everybody can efford the price. Many research had found that majority of indebtedness came from the need of money for health treatment.
Since there was no proper treatment to the long and gradually complicated problems, it became a chronic disease in Cambodian agricultural sector while coping with the poor/broken public health education and protection system, we all are affected badly.
